It is Time to Build Your Diablo III

Diablo III will open its doors to hell on the 15th of May. Just short of 12 years after Diablo 2 was launched and 16 years since the original Diablo. Prepare enough Diablo 3 gold for this game is very important. I remember those days, the high-resolution 17-inch 1,024 x 768 Sony Trinitron CRT monitor lighting up the lightless room I rented. I'd have sent my girlfriend (now wife) home, and this is MY time.

A cigarette in hand, smoldering--look deep enough into the embers and you just might see Memphisto's face laughing within--while waiting for the game to load off the 40GB hard disk drive. I was using the Cyrix 5X86 back in 1996, running it overclocked at the limits of its performance envelope, further enhanced by a huge Peltier cooler trying it best to add an icy coldness to the dying CPU.

I was not printing big bucks. A Sitoca table was out of reach. I bought an Ikea Lack coffee table instead and placed my keyboard, mouse and monitor on it. I squatted, sat on my pillow or carpet, lying down when my back ached with gaming fatigue.

The light from the Trinitron forms a bubble around me, a soft phosphorescence filling me with comfort while I descend to the depths of Diablo's hell. My housemates were fighting their own demons. I'd message them later. This is MY time. And inside the bubble, MY space.

I destroyed Memphisto perhaps ten thousand times, 'blink'-ing to him as fast as I could using my mage and frost novaing him until he dropped his goods, always waiting for that Unique to drop, that item with the gold words. I've never spent so many hours killing a single monster in ANY other game and I've played them all--I've bought and played so many games that Activision gave me a Mechwarrior 2 product merchandise stand for me to use as a shelf at home. Tec Drome's Wu sold me a game or two every week; I worked in Sim Lim Square at that time, you see.

Lunch would be the time for our daily discussions on market prices for rare stuff...how many Stone of Jordans is this mask worth etc. Lunch would also be the time for us to buy extra RAM in Sim Lim Square, upgrade that graphics card, change that microcracked CPU and buy that newfangled LCD monitor to save our eyes from watering.

A tear comes to my eye thinking about those times. It's an itch. I've never managed to scratch it with satisfaction with any other game. World of Warcraft was RAID happy and 3-hour RAID sessions were strenuous and never satisfied me as much. Diablo 3 was a happy time. Thinking about it evokes a mighty strong nostalgia.

Thank you, Lord, for having Diablo 3. It's late, but Sim Lim Square is still there. Our hardware has increased in power by leaps and bounds, but Diablo 3 feels the same as Diablo 2. Perhaps even purer. Not so much afterthought as Diablo 2. Less hack able and cheats this time round as everything resides on Blizzard's cloud.
