The story takes place in a dark fantastical world called Sanctuary. 20 years ago (Diablo 2) the world was saved from demonic forces. Diablo II returns to Sanctuary as evil begins to return to the world again.

Diablo III uses the latest technology in a new graphics engine that updates the characters and creates a fully immersive 3D world.
